Can't afford Aspire, can someone build me a model?
Can't afford Aspire, can someone build me a model?
I own Vectric pro. I can't afford the upgrade at this time to Aspire. Not to mention I'm new to CNC. I downloaded a model for M1911 -A1 grips full size. I have been producing grips but have had requests for the smaller compact 1911. Would anyone be willing to design the model for me to purchase for a 1911 compact or officer model grips?

I think CarveOne has a set that he did with a celtic pattern on them. Maybe he'll pop in.

On my website are two free downloads for 1911A compact grips. They are compressed .zip files with .crv3 from older versions of Aspire if someone has time to make them work in VC Pro. I have a tight schedule today. Been that way all summer. http://www.carveonecncwoodcraft.com/downloads.html

Re: Can't afford Aspire, can someone build me a model?
To all:
One of the downloaded files has both the rear side and front side design files. The other download file has just the front side file without the center logo.
I made a fixture to cut the pair of grips in two operations. The fixture has locator pins to keep the single piece of material properly centered when flipping it over. I cut left and right grips on the back side first, then the left and right grips on the front sides second, then remove the pair of grips from the material. Sounds complicated, but it simplifies cutting the grips correctly. All vectors needed to make a plain 3D model are there. Just create new vectors for a new surface pattern for the new design 3D model that you want to use on other grips. You can also use V-carve surface texture designs just by mapping the V-carve design onto a plain 3D model shape In Vcarve Pro.
Have fun with this info oldmanT. If you want to see a photo of my fixture I will post it here.

CarveOne,
I would like to see the fixture you made. It's always an education to see how others solve problems.
Thank you,
Bob

Re: Can't afford Aspire, can someone build me a model?
MDF base block - 9" w x 8-1/4" h x 3/4" t
Grip Material - 4-1/2" w x 5" h x 0.30" t
Locator Pins - 2 each 1/8" steel pins centered on width of material and each are centered at 1/4" in from the top
and bottom of the material. The pins are no higher than 0.30" above the MDF. The pins could also be made
of hardwood dowel. I use two 1/2" by 1" pieces of thin double side tape on each side of the material to
keep it from lifting during cutting operations. Other low profile methods could be used at each corner of
the material to act as hold downs. In the photo below are two sample grips laying on top of a piece of walnut grip material.

They carve good in plexi and corian as well, when I made and sold them plexi was the top seller [need some good buffing equipment to make em ubless you opt for textured]

Re: Can't afford Aspire, can someone build me a model?
So the problem I have been having with the download is the transfer into VcarvePro. I was able to download the free trial version of Aspire and open the downloaded files from CarveOne. Thanks for that CarveOne. I was then able to save the files in the .crv format. Everthing saved except the 3D part of the file. I was in the Vcarve forum in order to find out I could do it. One of the Wizards said the 3D portion would have to be posted as an STL file in order for me to load into Vcarve to make it work. Don't know if anyone has the inclination to help with this? I already ran the backside of the design and all worked well. I used the fixture CarveOne posted.
