I always liked that model too Scott.
LIKE the thick bark feature and how you sized so Racoon is all Heartwood!!
That particular model I forget the proportional height, but I think I almost doubled it and left a little spare for my Tapered Ball Nose CEL(?)
Racoon Teak Knot prelim.jpg
I think it's one that benefits from the additional height and small TBN.

NICE cut Scott! :)

Scott, I think this might be a candidate for a deep try! It is at about 2 1/8” as it sits now.

Hey Scott:)
Saw this last night, but wanted to look at my actual file as cut on my control computer.
I do prelims to get a feel for the model on this house computer at a lower resolution and rough....
Then jig up the branch for actual cutting, and tweak at high res to match a jigged picture in App Data.
Shop is too warm, but fired up computer to put the cut file on a stick and work on inside house.
I DID do a save as and reimported the original Prelim, and it was entirely proportional,
Z TEST DELETE RACOON FULLY PROPORTIONAL TEAK PRELIM.jpg
But pretty sure in the actual cut I got rid of the Pebble by importing and deleting below the Plane.
Also remember I Level Clipped it also(?) and then increased model height for the Walnut Branch.
2.25.20 RACOON WALNUT 1 BRUSHED DONE.jpg
Is that piece in last pic the same slab as what you cut up top?
(the bark and layout on the wood looked Great!)
Hard telling if the bark on bottom pic is tight?
Also hard to tell wood figure when it Rough without flooding with Naptha or Denatured,
BUT I think I almost see a racoon face area in 2 spots? (could be staining though)

I'd surface skim both sides parallel to figure which side to carve and which side is up/sand back side to finish sanding and put any fonts and info on it/then flip/jig/and take a picture for App Data folder.
You're already good at placement once you can see grain figures:)

IF I remember right, the two problem areas for increasing model height were his paws started to look unnatural, and the furrow between his eyes became too deep.
Also because of my Z, I had to insert the 3" long TBN quite a ways, and had to watch out my collet nut
did NOT hit his ears when carving that deep flat area above his head!

The wood looks Nice, and Bark was a good accent....but wood needs cleaning up for best placement.
IF actual cut file is very much different than proportional....I'll give you the percentage height increase.

Looks like you've Really got the CNC bug!! :) :)

Hey Scott,
For that little Walnut branch above, as imported and a little bit of base below Zero plane deleted...
Proportionally as imported the model height was about .69";
walnut racoon as imported height.jpg
As cut after I had the piece jigged....I had increased the model height after Level Clipping as shown
in pic to 1.00";
Walnut Racoon as cut.jpg
So I roughly increased model height for that particular branch by 45% .
As it was a branch and I had to cheat my Z-Zero down to get to the right wood....
I probably left myself some slack so I didn't have to do a relief cut.
Looked decent at that percentage....you may be able to get a little more height on your piece?
Play with it a bit :)
45% would be a good place to start though.

Hope this helped in any way:)

Scott, Thank you for all the information ! Things are a little crazy here right now not sure how fast I will move on getting the wood cleaned up. Work and trying to sell a place in Florida with everyone scattered in 4 states ! It won't last and I will be able to play again !
