Been watching (more like studying) Beki's awesome tutorial "Rotary Modeling a Spindle". Lot of info in that video. I have some wood from a Jack Daniels barrel I purchased for a project years ago. So, diced up a piece and put her lessons to use.
All work done on the rotary.
Here is a pic of the piece I used with original charring. I have to say some of the best smelling wood I ever did tool
