Proudly Canadian

Post by mfirlott »

It was suggested that we fly our flag so, while awaiting delivery of a smallish flagpole and flag, I decided to repeat what I saw many, many times in the forum...made one out of wood and built in the waves.

She's made of maple (how appropriate is that) for the white and cherry for the reds. It's about 17"h X 30"w.

I'll display it proudly around the home somewhere as soon as the missus tells me where I'm allowed to hang it :D

Nice work! One of the best Canadian flag projects I have seen in 3D! Simple, and using 2 woods: excellent!

Thanks again for the nice words. I do not remember how long it took as it was nearly 1 1/2 years ago but I did it in 4 sections and glued all to a thin plywood backing. Two jobs for the 2 end pieces in cherry. A third job for the maple center with the inlay cutout. And the fourth and final job for the cherry leaf inlay. But based on my files and timing estimates:
- left side: 6 1/2 hrs
- right side: 6 1/2 hrs
- centre with female inlay: 14 hrs
- leaf (male) inlay: 15 mins

So total was about 42 hours over the course of several days. Of course this was 3D so the small 1/8" bit took forever.

Wow...seems like a lot now but as a hobbyist, I can take as long as I want.
