We Will Do This

Post by mezalick »

I just thought I would offer a 3-D model for those who are looking to cut something during this difficult time.
It's a takeoff on the classic "Rosie the Riveter" design.

This is great! My wife works for the NYS Dept. of Health as a Nurse Practioner and my daughter is a RN at the VA hospital here. I see this coming in handy. Thanks so much!

Dang, I just noticed I'm the one getting Phil's hammering. At least I'm wearing a hard hat!

Well I made an attempt at this, I had 3/4" pine laying around so I tried setting base height to .5 and shape height to .24, I didn't get enough detail and had some spots like one on the mask that did not cut even. I cut the rough with a .24 EM and finish with a .125 BN.
So I adjusted base height to .4 shape height to .34 and ran it again with a .03125 TBN and it came out better.
So far I have hit it with some minwax "antique maple".
I also ran into that buried dark line :|

Nice work,,,,I realize that it'll need a really small bit to get all the fine details.
Thanks for trying it out.

Attached is my effort with the piece. Thanks for the file. I carved it in a piece of maple with a .06" TBN bit and applied two coats of sanding sealer before painting with paint pens. I set the component height to .625" in a 1" thick piece. It carved nicely with minimal finishing. Final two coats of clear lacquer from a rattle can. Size is 8" tall. Hope you enjoy.
