Finished my Christmas stuff....

Post by gkas »

with time left over.

My major project was a table top Scrabble board and accessories. I made everything except the tiles and the turntable. The game board stores in the drawer, and is stored upright. The game position is protected from changing.

Love both projects. Did you use your laser attachment for the tiles inserts inside the board?

I used the standard Arial in the font library. The fonts were engraved with my 4.2W laser @ 100/ipm.

I REALLY like Aspire!! I'm still a rank novice with it, but it's a lot of fun. I was mulling over what type of pull to put on the drawer. I certainly didn't want to BUY one. I looked online at a lot of pulls, but couldn't find a good fit. So, I just sat down and just started playing in Aspire. After about an hour I had something I really liked. It's double sided to handle the under cut on the upper part of the pull. I added two dowel holes on the back for placement and stabilization. I took the drawer front and put a matching set of holes in it. I didn't want the handle to be too fragile. I was pretty happy with the way it came out.

Yes. I milled the inserts down with the drum sander to about 1mm, then painted the sheet with acrylic color. A couple of top coats of clear on top. I engraved, then cut out a batch of inserts with the laser. LOTS of trial and error. I was able to wipe off most of the smoke haze with denatured alcohol. I finally settled on engraving the lettering with no covering, then lightly covering with blue tape to cut out the tiles. The cutting puts a lot of haze on the surface, but the lettering @ 100/ips doesn't.

Thank you. I've not added the Axiom/J-tech laser.
