Couple Ornaments

Post by JoeBlow »

Paduka Bear....
PadukaBear1.JPG
Padauk on Maple. Increased the depth of both inner ear components to expose the maple underneath. I think it's cute.

Santa...
Santa1.JPG
Maple on Walnut.

Both ornaments are 3" x .35". Double sided model. Having seen Aussie's technique on his recent cowboy box, I pocketed and glued the padauk and maple outlay pieces as a disc prior to cutting both models with one set of rough and finish toolpaths.

Love the design, contrasting woods and the bear is adorable! Definitely going on my “to cut list” (for next Christmas :D )
Thanks for the idea.

Just curious...what was the total cut time for one ornament?
Joe

I have a chip on my shoulder....several more in my hair and lots more all over my shop floor.

Absolutely brilliant sir.
You're not going to believe this but I have one of those projects set up and ready to go, saved the files many months ago but never got around to carving.
I may resurrect this project seeing how good yours turned out. Mine look a little thicker than yours so just out of interest could you tell me the overall project size and the depth of your modelling both for the bauble and the crown pieces in the modelling tab please, yours look just about right
I've just clicked "Buy Now" at Amazon for the tiny screw in eyelets. 8)
again they look fabulous
Nice Carvings and thank you for jogging my memory
Regards
C

Thanks for the compliments!
Really enjoyed the assembly process on this one and "dipping my toe" into that other tab in the software (Modeling) :D

Hi Holzarbeiter. Total cut time was close to 4 hours.
Rough: .125TBN 50/30ipm 10% stepover 26 minutes
Finish: .0625TBN 50/30ipm 3% stepover 1 hour 21 minutes
Per side
I'm getting better at starting out very close to the finished model size with the rough blank. This one had .06" above and below the model. Sure makes a difference in those cut times!

I do believe it BigC :D! Here is a screenshot of the globe and ornament top. Both models stayed the same size on the top and the bottom with the only difference being is I used a Base Height of .1122" on the bottom. This gave me a final model thickness of .3659".

Very nice indeed.... too many projects and not enough time.... I am tempted to retire from my full time work... I wish :D

Hope and River.jpg
Mine aren't two sided like yours Joe , but hopefully they will like them . They are for our daughter who lost two children stillborn at birth. Hope is the butterfly , River is the deer. Thanks again for the Idea.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase the ornament model?
