Kaleidoscope
Kaleidoscope
I used several species of wood, Bradford Pear from a tree I cut down, cherry, alder, pine, Douglas fir, and oak.
I also used most of the equipment in my shop. Besides the CNC for the flat stuff, the Rotary for the pedestal, table saw to cut the staves for the barrel, Lathe to round off the barrel and drill out the interior of the barrel, Laser to cut the glass for the lens and interior mirrors, and 3D printer for the small gears and crank handle.
The idea and measurements came from a set of drawings I got from Forest Street Designs. I modeled all the parts in Aspire and Rhino. Fun project.

Re: Kaleidoscope
Very cool Gary. Thanks for listing all of the tools you used. Good to see projects with this type of listing to let others know the cnc is not the only tool we use. Thanks for sharing.

WOW!!! I really enjoy your work Gary.
So creative and I assume pretty time consuming.
Keep posting to give all of us something to shoot for.

Nice job on the scope! Be careful though, they become addictive.

.
Thanks everybody for the compliments.
Until Michael mentioned it, I didn't realize you did one also, so I searched the posts. Yours is very impressive also. Looks like we got it from the same plans.

Gary,
I had those plans for a long time before I got around to building the scope. Kaleidoscopes seem to be an addiction for me. My wife makes me get rid of one of the older ones when I build a new one. I might have to try one of the segmented tubes like you used. I like the look.
