Bridal Shower Gift

Post by dwilli9013 »

Another Wine Caddy as a bridal shower gift.

Material: Maple Hard
Dimensions 14" x 8" x .625" thick
Bits 1/4 end mill clearance roughing. 1/16 Tapered Ballnose
Finish 2# shellac 2 coats prior to gel stain to bring out some edges. 4 coats rattle can laquer light 220 sand between coats.

Had a bit of a time with feeds on this one as this is the first time cutting Hard Maple. Had a lot of bit screaming going on during roughing. I speed up feed rate but the scream was still there at the ends of travel and on turnarounds. Spindle speed was about 12000 rpm and I wasnt experiencing burning other that areas the bit was turning around at. Me thinks I have to experiment more with this as I love the look of the Maple. That is why I did not do any painting of the letters on the outside or the grapes. The wood is simply to pretty to paint.

Nice job! I like the finish, looks great with just the slightly darker highlights.
