Mississippi River Boat

Post by garylmast »

For Christmas I gave myself a 400-watt laser cutter, capable of cutting 3/4" in a single pass. My first project was this Mississippi Riverboat. I drew all the vectors in Aspire and exported them as a DXF file which was then imported to the software that goes to the laser cutter. The bridge between the smoke stacks and the tops of the smokes stacks, also designed in Aspired, I 3-D printed. It's 28-inches long by 16-inches tall.

That is totally cool. I should know, I working on/around the Mississippi river for 15 years. Part of my job was refueling the Delta Queen and Mississippi Queen river boats on their travels from St Louis to St Paul. Really cool part of my job. Even had a ride on Delta Queen up to a set of locks as they didn't give me proper notice on coming in for fuel, captain appreciated I got things done on a hours notice. He even paid my cab fare back to plant. Oh and free drinks and t-shirt.
If you want to kill time, why not work it to death!
