Stool from Wooden Worktop
Last year I made a custom stool for a workbench I have at home. IT was made from pieces of a used kitchen worktop - butcher-block style construction. Its taken me 18 months to do a blog entry for it but I finally got it finished if anyone is interested - http://vectriclabs.blogspot.co.uk/2015/ ... .html#more - at least after such a delay I can accurately report that its still in operation after a year of use and quite comfortable to sit on.
Cheers,
James

James,
I didn't see the cut files for this project, did you forget to attach them ?? Looks great and something that would come in handy in my shop, thanks for sharing.

Re: Stool from Wooden Worktop
Hi Joe,
Did not really think about attaching the files as they were pretty specific to my material etc. However I am happy to share them here in case they are of use to anyone. They are provided on the following understanding:
1 I include the toolpaths just so you can see how I set them up for my job.
2 If you want to make your own version of the stool please check all data and sizes and re-calculate according to your setup, material etc. - do not use the toolpaths as they are.
3 You may not share or sell the files - if someone wants them please send them here to get them.
4 Don't judge me on the disorganised way I set the files up
I'll attached two zip files, one for the top and bottom files for the legs and likewise for the seat and support section. I'll also post a few photos showing the cut parts.
Cheers,
James

James,
I would neither judge you for your organizational skills (I'm sure mine can be worse) nor dishonor you by selling or giving the plans away, they are yours and that fact that you wish to share them should always be your choice.
Thanks very much, I plan on making a few as gifts for my Graddaughters as well as for myself. I will share my results when I am able to get to this project.

Thanks for the write up, James. And the design is very attractive - a touch Asian, which I like. There may be one of your stools in my workshop soon.

Re: Stool from Wooden Worktop
Thanks for the nice comments, it was an interesting project to work on and good motivation as I had nothing to sit on until it was done - I have got a bunch of other stuff I've made but just not done the write up for yet.
Next week I hope to finally get round to blogging and posting the files for my giant wooden hand-cuffs (which I made about 2 1/2 years ago), these are completely pointless, but easy to make and definitely get people talking...
Cheers,
James
PS - The apple is included in the photo for scale.

James-
Thought you would want to know that your creation has an American cousin...
This was made to finish at 19 inch height, and was made from USA standard 2x6 construction lumber - it is of the pine family. So, the slots and pockets were made to accept 1-1/2 inch thick lumber, which of course, took more fitting than I care to admit. I rounded some of the edges on a router table. I also modified the center doughnut to be round on the outside.
