Nah!,
Quite obviously it's a Gimp like me, on his Mag-Lev wheelchair, calling the Mothership on his early version Motorola "Bag phone" complaining that the last download didn't "Take" :)
Not sure how a smart guy like you misinterpreted something so Simple :D

We simple little VCP guys can now project onto 3D shapes with VCP8 :)
Now that Michael explained "Tilt/fade" and watching tutorials,
I MAY soon be CRAWLING out of the Primordial Ooze and actually MAKE something :D
Not Positive.....but didn't Mayans kill all their Yo-Yo makers because they thought they were Wizards?
Explains why we've never dug any up. :D

You guys are killing me this morning! Needed a good laugh to get my Sunday started!

Love what you are doing with the yoyos as well. Might have to make up a bunch of them for the Senior Center where Mama goes...

Mike :)

NOT crawling out of the OOZE today!!! :)
Looks more like a Mayan Sacrificial Well for killing Spindle and bits! :D
Back to the drawing slate :(
Don't help....I'll figure it out, but going back to standard resolution.
Going to make some "Regular" chips today before I sacrifice my Laptop :)
Pic is only for laughs.
Certainly doesn't look like my .125" deep dish at 0 height, with Mayan Vcarved onto it.
Oh Well.
Enough playing.

Had the Mayan utilized the wheel, perhaps they would have figured out this Yo-Yo thing!...... And Scott, if you ever do upgrade to Aspire, Vectric will need an extra server just for your post........ just saying..... .... (But it will be interesting and educational reading, I'm certain!)

P.S. you made my day too! :)

Glenn,
There's a method to my verbosity :)
Trying to Get CarveOne so TICKED at me for stomping on his thread, that he'll drive up here to KILL me.......
When I'll Promptly run him over with my wheelchair.....And hold him there until he promises to teach me some of his tricks! :D
THEN I'll release him.....THEN he kills me :D

ME misinterpret something? Of course, if it gets smiles ...

The Mayan leaders were known for sacrifices of their enemies and whoever else they didn't like. There are deep pools with the remains at the bottom.

Ok, I won't tell you how deceptively simple it is to raise and lower a model using the wrench tool. Once you VCP8 guys and gals learn to use that tool to control model thickness and position within the material you will start sticking 3D models all over your projects. Just because you can. :D

Nah, I would never do that. Just ask and I'll give you an answer, even if I'm wrong. Not having VCP8 leaves me guessing as to which tools it has that I'm familiar with.

Thanks Mike.

I'll post the Yo-Yo machining fixture file soon. Use the Vectricon Yo-Yo download if you want to use Michael Tyler's project. I'll post one of my own here also. The basic Yo-Yo shape is somewhat different, mine having flatter edges and is less rounded. My file will include the details for making two halves on a 3/4" x 4" x 8" block of material that fits the machining fixture. I need to make one more Yo-Yo since making some changes in the past day or so.

Below is one more that uses a circle of hearts that I made a year or so ago while playing with the extrude and weave tool.

Two more Yo-Yo designs created today. (I told you guys not to get me started.) :D I have a decent library built up now, so I'll slow down until I can finish another project tomorrow.

Vcarve combined with 3D models look pretty good to me.

Partial to that last Combo myself:)
But like the weaves like always(especially the "Hearts"). :)
VCarve looks Really nice on a Dome, and the "dots" make a really nice contrast.

The first two Yo-Yos I made used 1/4" dowels for the axles. I have since changed the drawings to 5/16" dowels. I never had this problem with the store bought ones I had as a kid, but there is a tendency for the string to put pressure on the insides of the YoYo and it will cause the sides to come apart. The axle holes need to be pretty tight on the axle. Glue is my final resort for those, but then the string can't be changed again. I used red oak dowels because I already had them. I'll buy maple or poplar next time to see if they work better. Maybe the red oak is too slick. I'll also increase the hole depth some more to get additional friction.

One other point about the 3D models on the Yo-Yos is that it gives better grip when playing with them than plain smooth sides like the old ones. The Vcarved ones also, to a lesser degree depending on the design. Fine, shallow line Vcarvings still give some enhanced grip.

The snowflake design came from the all-free-downloads site. Searched for snowflakes. Free for non-commercial use. The eps file download wouldn't open, so I did a vector conversion of the image and did a lot of node editing. It needs considerably more cleanup editing to convert lines to curves and get rid of extra nodes. It may have been quicker to manually draw one segment and use the array tool.

CarveOne,

I'm disappointed you don't remember how to replace an authentic yo-yo string :P

Replacement strings (no breaking yo-yo or PHD required)

My old ones (55-60 years ago) just had a cotton string with one end stuck in the axle hole. The dowel was a very tight fit into the holes. For the sleepers, the string had a simple loop tied at end and the axle went through the loop. The newfangled strings are what Michael T. gave me at the Aspire camp. I'll bet he did that just to throw an old man into a loop figuring it out.

Thanks for the video link. I'll glue all of the current and future axles.
