Children's theme bed carving

Post by dealguy11 »

With a little bit of VectorArt 3d artwork, a little modeling for the castle and some sculpting for the snow, we made this carving to be mounted on a children's theme bed we're making. Can you guess the theme? I'll post pictures of the completed bed in a week or so when it's fully painted - we used Aspire to cut a lot of the pieces. The castle is deliberately different from the one in the movie that's being referenced, and there will be no copyrighted elements on the bed. With the right sheets, I think we'll get the point across. This is made of 3/4" MDF, sealed with a 1/2 glue/water mix, and then airbrushed. This was my first attempt at airbrushing, so it could likely be improved, but I think it works.

D&S please dont take this the wrong way but, The mountain behind the castle doesnt quite seem to fit the theme. Just my two cents worth. Otherwise fantastic as always. (this does give you free reign to pick on my projects too.) Dan

Out of curiosity, which one? Are you talking about he one on the left or the one directly behind the castle? Not being defensive, just not understanding the point.

Hmm. I suppose so. Anyway, looks like I have to repaint it since the designer has decided this afternoon that he likes a different color of blue, so maybe I can do something with paint rather than recarving it.

I probably wouldn't have noticed if Dan hadn't said anything but everytime I look at it now my eye is drawn to that one mountain
Good the way you have thought about copyright & think your right, with the right linen I seriously doubt if anyone is going to notice the differences.

So here's paint treatment number 2 with the designer-approved colors. I've tried to suggest more depth and movement to the rocks on the mountain on the right using the paint. Also took the picture more straight on so the perspective doesn't shorten the picture.

Steve, as I said before I probably wouldn't have noticed if it hadn't been mentioned but the Mountain on the right just doesn't look like its covered in Snow & ice the same as the one on the left & as it's taller you would expect it to look more so.
I know you didn't design it but as Dan said it doesn't seem to fit in with the rest.

Show the designer Dan's comments if it helps back up what you are saying to them

At this point it kind of is what it is. I think in the film this references, the castle was on a similar type mountain.

The mountain behind the castle looks more like its rocky and defensible. Like a mountain I'd build on to protect my home. I think it looks great.
