Small Serving Tray with Waterlily

Post by MisterBob »

I got some good advice here on a problem that was vexing me, thanks, Steve! So I at least owe a nice project to the community.

Here is a serving tray I made for my mother. http://toolmakingart.com/images/Serving ... ay3d.crv3d

The trickiest part, apart from the cutting path bleed issue that dealguy11 solved, was getting the profiles to match. The final cut profile and original contour were not a very good match.

So I had to cut the profile, trace it to paper, photograph it and import the image to Aspire.

Then I was able to alter the cuts and make a fairly nice joint.

Because this tray is for food, I wanted the details to be cleanable. So I used a ball nose mill to carve smooth details.

This was made with 1/4" Baltic plywood and Maple.

I am pretty sure she was! This is hard to stick on the refrigerator, so I can't be positive. :D
She did request a second one so the odds are good though.

Good work on this sweet project. Is that pac-man in the design?

The silhouette of a waterlily leaf tends to run somewhere between a packman with pursed lips and a bum. My Mother's favorite video game ever is Mrs. Packman, so the double connection is not a bad one.
