Restroom door signs

Post by CarveOne »

I was asked to make signs for the new doors of new restrooms at a local rifle club's club house. The request included making them look like my horse stall signs, scaled down to 3.5" by 11". I used 1/2" thick red oak and did a 1/4" round-over on the front edges. One of the ladies in the club liked my suggestion for their facilities and made the request.

My temporary full time machinist job is completed and I'm back to CNC projects again.

Thanks,

That's my usual method using Minwax Early American liquid stain. then three coats of polyurethane, then General Finishes Java gel stain to darken the recesses, then a final coat of polyurethane. I smear some Java inside the elliptical border and wipe it off to blend it in. Gives it an older look. I do the same on the Celtic crosses I've made.

Michael,

I'm surprised at how the local people here have reacted to these signs. They like the domed ellipse that brings out the wood grain, and the floral pattern. The stain work is easier to do than it looks.

I'll post a new Celtic cross by the coming weekend when it's finished. It's much more elaborate than my previous versions. It also uses some Java gel stain to make it "pop" more. Making so many of your Paradise boxes has been very good training. There may be another Pbox coming up, and it won't be my usual build this time. It's in design layout stage at the moment.

I'm not surprised - people can't help but appreciate your quality work.

Looking forward to seeing your new Celtic Cross and Paradise Box iteration!

I don't remember seeing your signs, but I wouldn't be likely to go into the wrong one anyway. I first heard of it when I was in the military. It gets around. I just never saw it written on anything and mentioned it for these signs as a wise crack and she accepted it. I'll know Tuesday evening if they have been installed.
