Dale,
These are tremendous. My kids are a little old too, and I don't have grandkids yet, but I tell you my nephews are going to love 'em.

Re: Toy Cars
The best wood for toys is pine because it doesn't splinter. Since you have to glue pieces together to get the necessary thickness and size check out lumber yards for cull lumber. All of them I've made were from cull 2x4's.
The best finish and easiest finish is mineral oil, my preference is Tung oil because it isn't toxic when it dries, and is very durable and easy to repair.
You can squirt it on, apply with a small piece of cotton cloth, dunk the assembled toys, and don't worry, the wheels won't stick to the axles. Just wipe off the excess after a few minutes. I use a spout top bottle, a four sided cookie sheet, and a small cotton rag.
Because of the EPA as far as I know it is no longer made in the US. The only source I know of for real Tung oil product, made in Canada but available from:
http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/us ... 0+Tung+Oil
Caution if it says Tung oil finish there isn't any Tung oil in it.
Caution if it's sticky it isn't Tung oil.
If I remember correctly I think I can post as v-carve files. I can also post dxf files. Keep watching I will add more as time allows.
I usually by wheels from Casey Woods. They usually have a smaller axle hole (5/16") that I drill out to 3/8" for a 11/32" axle so the wheels don't wobble as much as a 5/16" hole for a 1/4" axle.

Re: Toy Cars
Hi I just looked at the new files for aspire and v carve the files worked good for demo cut but you must cut your own wood . The fenders use .875 thick wood. here in canada the wood is only .75 thick. and even then I find if I can get wood at lowes or home depot that is over .64 inches I think I am lucky. I have been finding they are cutting lumber thiner each year . I guess they think they can save money or somthing. the car body is 1.25 inches cut good in the demo but my bits will not reach the full 1.25 inches. did you try them an your machine. Maybe your bits are longer. I only use a 1/4 inch chuck not 1/2 inch maybe that would help lovely car and thanks for the patterns.

Re: Toy Cars
I just carved out some of the 1912 Ford Roadster Bodies and there are no fenders
This put a halt to the assembly line I had going and now they have to go to the custom shop for rework. I got car parts everywhere!
Anyone design them yet?

Re: Toy Cars
Cars were scaled to fit 2" wheels and are cut from 2" x material. Since I have lots of cull lumber I salvage it by gluing and planing to the desired thickness.
http://www.cuttingtoolsource.com/extra- ... mills.html
The above site carries 1/4" bits with a 1.5" cut. I recommend the 3-flute spiral cutters.
Dale
PS If I missed any other parts, send me a message.
