New Lithopane

Post by dond52 »

I just finished this lithopane using Aspire 3.5. I cut it about .100" deep into .125" thick green translucent acrylic.
The dimensions are 5.75" x 7.75" . I used a 1/32" 1 degree tapered ballmill and .003" stepover at 22000 RPM.
It took about 12 hours to cut.
Thank you Vectric team and forum members for a GREAT program and GREAT help.
Thank you for looking,
Don

Hi Don,
That litho looks great! The color really seems to compliment it too. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I like ye who think outside the box, nice choice of color for the frog, go where no man has gone before  I was thinking how it would look in a clear cast acrylic using a color transparency film behind it?mmmmm.. just an idea...

Wes and Jim - Thank you! I am just using some stuff left laying around from when I done some scrollsawing.
Jardin33 - Thank you ! "Clear cast acrylic using a color transparency film behind it", would definately take me someplace
I have never been before. I am just learning how to do lithopanes and some of the different materials.
The forum members are the ones that deserve the credit, because of all the great information, motivation,
and inspiration. I just used a desk lamp behind it. It was a quick and dirty way to get pictures taken. As usual,
the pics do not do the litho much justice.
Thank you for looking,
Don

Don that looks great! I like the look of the cut face in front. It just looks much more crisp than the other two.

johnnydoughey - I get those bits from a company called Harvey Tool Company. The distributor I use is
Saville & Co. from Pittsburgh, Pa. I also get tools from a company called MSC Industrial Supply Co. and
another Company called Enco. My real daytime job is a CNC Machinist. I program and operate a
Milltronics 4 axis machining center. I hope this helps.

John - Thank you ! I have been thinking that frog and I are real similar. We're just floating around on our lily pads
day dreaming about what we will get into next. I wish you and the rest of the forum members a very
Happy New Year !

This is my personal opinion, if you are not using corian, I don't, use cast acrylic. Why? no burrs it is harder than glass and cuts extremely well. you can get it cut to size from www.delviesplastics.com ,click on translucent you can pick your color after you select the size you want. :D you can also get transparent colors....if you want to really detail a pic use a .047 (3/64ths) ballnose bit to finish ..takes a little longer but hey who is in a hurry...have a cup of coffee maybe 2,3,4 lol, while you wait..

Ok reread my post and feeling really stupid here, have no idea why I told you to use a smaller bit that was larger than the one you used, just a little? lol..senior moment....
