Re: AL's TIGER Tank project
Al,
The video's have been great.
As for the two rail sweep, there is normally multiple ways to achieve the same end point in Aspire - which I think speaks to it's power. I am always interested to see someone's approach, so please post what you can.
Thanks,
Tim

Re: AL's TIGER Tank project
Thats for sure Tim! Many ways to do it, here's how I did it! Now I'm no expert at this but it worked for me doing it this way. I'll have to post screen shots of the PDF I made due to size of file. 17 Photo's in total, 6 at time due to limits here, so its 3 posts total.

Re: AL's TIGER Tank project
Looks good Al.
I am confused by a sentence in the caption in picture 003. If I read it correctly, you say you sometimes need to adjust the profile for the 2 rail sweep to account for the radius of the bit.
The 3D toolpaths take in account the bit geometry when they calculate the toolpaths, so this should not be necessary. Have you had a problem with final size?

Re: AL's TIGER Tank project
Yes Tim, under normal conditions but in doing this sprocket profile you'll see you have to change it a tad due to where it stops and returns, you'll have to try it and you'll see what I'm talking about. There is an over lap that is not wanted in the cut and it makes a mess of the cut. Think of the very center of the bit going all the way to a line, but yet you wanted to stop at the line, so you end up with half the bit diameter as an over lap. Hope that explains it.

Re: AL's TIGER Tank project
In 2 rail sweep the bit seems to work from the center of the bit, line to line and there don't seem to be an offset for the bit, so you end up with an over cut of half the bit diameter. I just allow for it in my drawings.

Very nice work, quite a intense project excellent detail.

I suppose everything is straight forward if you use common sense & follow a logical sequence but I can't help feeling very inferior reading this thread.
A job well done Al.

Re: AL's TIGER Tank project
There seems to be no way to edit old post's on here so I'll repost PIC 003 of the tutorial. Tim had pointed out something to me and looks like he's correct! I'm not sure what happened back when I did the tutorial that needed the slight correction on the sweep, but it seems now it works perfectly! So an edit is called for on PIC 003. Maybe I got better at using Aspire now compared to 6 months ago....LOL

Re: AL's TIGER Tank project
Thanks guys! Here's the Plastic kit that I'm scaleing the parts from. From 1/35th scale to 1/6th scale, just measure and CAD it up, export as a 2D DXF file to Apsire to make the cuts! Sounds so easy when I say it.....LOL
