Nice work! What bits did you use in carving the heart and Roses? It looks pretty deep, is that an illusion or really long shanks?

All of the modeling was done with BN (.50, .25, .0625) solid carbide bite. You are right the model is over 1.5" deep.

Well done. Deeper carvings can be tricky. But it looks like you pulled it off beautifully. Getting rid of tool marks can be tough.

Did not have any tool marks. Just a lot of end grain sanding.

That's a beautiful clean cut, and exceptional finish as always Doug!!
Out of the game recently....but there was a box recently you did with some spalt in it?

I mentioned this elsewhere, but one of the things I appreciate about Doug's creations is his eye for design and execution. In the hearts and Roses design the names are on a different level than the roses. This causes the eye to follow the whole design. I'd probably have put the names at the same level as the roses, but Doug's design is more effective.
