My latest carving that I thought I would two-tone it with the powder metal coating I’ve been doing in previous projects, Bronze and Stainless Steel. It looks a lot better in real life than what’s in the pictures. I carved it using MDF. Size is 18” x 7” x 13” tall.

Nice work Gary! I've been climbing the Aspire modelling learning curve this past week, I now have a clue how much work you put into this! How many slices/segments?

The Base was three slices, however I merged them together, so It was one cut on 1-1/2" thick material. The head was one slice on 2-1/4" material and the body was three slices on 3" thick material. It involved extra-long mills, so probably a better way would be more slices on thinner material. Of course, most cuts were double-sided. Although I used Netfabb for the slicing, everything could have been done in Aspire. Thanks for looking.

That looks great. Did you spray the resin metal mix? How much metal did you mix with the resin?

The mix is 3 to 1 metal to resin. This model took 300 grams metal to 100 grams resin, using a $15 scale I got from Amazon. After the resin is set, usually the next day, I take steel wool to buff off the resin until the metal shows through.

Thanks for the info. Did you spray or brush?

I have a cup gun with an oversized nozzle (2.3mm). It's similar to one you buy at Harbor Freight for 1/3 cost but only a 1.4mm nozzle. The body of this model I sprayed, but while the resin was still wet, I brushed the stainless-steel mix using just a small flux brush. Needless to say, you can do either way.
