Was in the process of making a knife block for my brother-in-law for Christmas. I'm doing most of the work on the front of my table (on some wood vices I mounted there), and had this sitting on the back of the table while I made the base and the magnetic holders to add to the shield. Anyway, I wasn't thinking and did a tool change and the gantry moved back to the tool holders at 2100ipm and crushed the knife block against the toolholder, smashing it up (1kW servo motors on each Y axis, literally smashed right through that maple like it wasn't even there).
Now I get to start again

I use my machine bed as a work surface as well. I have smashed stuff.

I would imagine a lot of us do & we all have proper benches that we should use
I am not going to say I have never smashed anything because as soon as I do you know what's going to happen

In a Fine Woodworking article, many years back, I recall Sam Maloof saying his table saw was his bench. Mine too. Along with my CNC, my Sjobergs workbench, and my assembly table.

Re: Why NOT to use your cnc as a work table
Now that my table saw is maxed out, the cnc is maxed out, the drill press table, router table, sander table, etc. I am eyeing the kitchen table. First, I have to figure out how to trick my wife to move her jewelry making stuff. We just need a bigger house. No accidents here, just firewood. Merry Christmas to all.
