In these troubling times we as sawdust and wood chip makers can do our part.

Sooo, now we know what "John, maker of chips" does when he has some idle time on his hands.

That is a HOOT!

Sawdust works good as magic dust at firepits, throw in just the right amount just the right way makes quite a sparkly display. I used to save up hefty bags of it just for that, but once I started getting mdf and plexi mixed in with it, made it useless.

Well, since this thread is circling the drain “so to speak” I’ll bet the Birch Bark roll will take care of any hemorrhoid issue one may have.

All kidding aside John, the video gave us something to smile about given the climate today
Thanks for posting!!

Yep, that's what we needed. I've shared it a bunch. Thanks and I'm back to the shop to make a couple extra rolls extra splintery.

He would not do well in the Kezuroukai - the Japanese Hand-Planing Competition. His "paper" is far too thick. I think that you have to get around 16 microns to be taken seriously - a sheet of paper is 70+! Google doesn't want to reveal how thick double-ply TP is, but probably more than 70 microns.

I think it was this guy who did a demonstration at an Ottawa Woodworkers meeting last year... never knew about this type of competition before that!

Ah! Brings back memories of using those old Sears catalog pages in the out-house when I was a kid! OUCH!

Got a lot of laughs from people I sent it to John! :) :)
IF people don't want the 6-16 micron pre-made Japanese paper....
Best way I've found for material for "Super Soft" is to carve 3D in endgrain in an Offset toolpath...
with a 1mm TBN and 8% stepover, and tweak rpms so it's "Just Right" :)
3.18.20 FURRY WHATSIT 3 1MM TBN DONE 1.jpg
Starting my gallon Ziplocks next in both Sugar Maple and Paper Birch:)
Instead of hammer and awl...I think a leather worker's Pounce Wheel will work great for perforations.
Thanks for the laughs John!
