franctions to decimal

Post by Xxray »

I recall reading that there is a little trick to quickly convert fractions to decimal within aspire, I think it is within the tool setup box, anyone know the details ?

Doug,
In most of the dialog boxes you can just enter the fraction and press the equal key. Example: 15/16=

If you go into Help Contents and click the three bars in the top left then select Calculation Edit Boxes you'll see the options available for calculations within all the places you would usually enter a numeric value in Aspire/VCarve/Cut2D.

I use common math symbols in the appropriate dialog box and press =, all that I have tried works. ( 1 5/16 + 1/2 or 3/16 then press = ) and the correct answer is in the box.

Sounds like a handy feature especially for those of us a little math impaired, thanks for the tips.

Hey Xxray, I'm not math impaired. I can count to 2. It's funny that I still pull up the Microsoft calculator to do these. I'll try to remember this and use the shortcut next time. Thanks for the information.

3 bars are right next to the word "contents" at least on mine.
File is a pdf, perhaps you need to assign another app to open it

There are charts on the Internet with "Fractions, Decimals, MMeters" in 3 columns on a single chart. I find these helpful while hunting for bits on sites where MM are the units. Just have one printed for my office and one for the shop is a great time-saver.
