Something a little different. This was a "proof of concept" effort to see how it worked out. The wood is my favorite big box 2X material, premium stuff yanno.

For those curious how this was done and maybe wanting to give it a go I created a tutorial on it:

Ted,
Thank you!

Download straight into "Ted's Awesome Files" file! It's becoming a sizeable file, and I truly hope to get a few projects across the CNC bed this summer!
I have played with the shapes and lines - I could do lots & lots of different projects from just those two files.
Thank you again - truly appreciated!

Thanks guys!

I have some other things using this technique with a few riffs that I am working on. One of the things I really like about it is that most of the grain is face grain and carves well. As I was figuring this out I was concerned that the layers glue up was going to be a problem. But it was actually very easy to get things lined up properly. No huge steps to sand down or anything like that.

Did learn one thing though, wait much longer if I have to remake a layer because of a foul up. I had to remake layer 5 and only waited about two hours before carving the interior. That is the only layer that has some chipout at the joint areas. Live and learn, that is exactly why I use big box lumber when I am experimenting. Fortunately it is going to be stuffed full of dried flowers so the chipouts are no big deal.

I did expect some chipping out on the upper lip and I got a little bit due to using pine. I think a hardwood would hold up better but am thinking about a slightly different method of cutting that surface. Think that is what I will go do now, figure out how to unwrap a curve along the top edge so I can import it into Aspire. That should take me the rest of the evening,
