I did an OUTDOOR SIGN carving on wood with raised rivets around the edge. Some of the rivets chipped off. Anyone have any ideas how to build them up? I am attaching a picture so hopefully some one can send me a suggestion.
Thanks so much
Kathy

Hi Bill,
A simple solution may be to drill out the defects and insert matching wood facegrain plugs that look like your rivets, or remachine the plugs.

David,
I thought of that but I cannot seem to unbake the components in order to make them closer together on one board. Do you know how to unbake or separate a component in order to re arrange?
Thanks Bill and Kathy

Re: Wood putty? Epoxy? or what
Hi Again,
I do not have Aspire, I am running V-Carve Pro. So I am not sure of how to "unbake" an object. I guess my idea was a little more low tech in that I was thinking of drilling them at the drill press or by hand and regluing new rivets into place. You may even be able to model some new rivets in Aspire, machine them out and then insert them in your drilled holes.

Wow . . .unbake . . . I believe it is like unbaking a cake . . .
The way I would handle it would be calculate the rim surface depth
and make a toolpath to skim cut the area of the rivets to remove them . . .
create component from toolpath preview . . .
Then reinstall the rivets saving a model without and one with just
on case this comes up again . . . If you would like I will skim cut and
send you back the removed rivets in a corrected model . . . PM me if
you want me too . . .I am not charging anything . . .

Re: Wood putty? Epoxy? or what
Added to define more . .
I would make vectored circles around the rivets . . .then you make a pocket tool path to machine out the area . . .you can keep increasing the depth until you get a visual of complete rivet removal . . .
Then after you have the preview looking like you wanted . . . you go under the model list at the top of the page and drop it down to pick "create component from toolpath preview" This will give you the model with the pocket cuts in it . . . .it is like baking in reverse . . . .this now is your new model . . . .I would save it then you can re-add the rivet where you would like . . . .

Re: Wood putty? Epoxy? or what
Many thanks to everyone who offered suggestions./ What we finally did to solve the problem is cut some off of the prior sign that we ruined and glue them in place. Worked very nicely. Actually they were easier to paint than the ones that we did not have to repair.
Again thank everyone. I learned several things through this problem.
Thanks Kathy
