Circle and Peg joints

Post by Gman62912 »

I am attempting to build my daughter a blanket chest and I am having problems getting the machine to carve the joint pattern consistent for the full 48". the carving is consistent for about 36" then offsets for the last 12". I have meticulously measured every part of the design and haven't found any discrepancies in the software! I am new to using a CNC machine! Please can anyone help me figure this out?

“Joint pattern”. What joint pattern?

“Inconsistent” and “offset”. How is it inconsistent? How is it offset?

Pictures and a file sample would be helpful to allow us to help you.

Can you post the CRV3D or CRV file? That will eliminate a lot of guessing.

To upload a file/photo:
  • Click on the Upload attachment button below the message area
  • Click on Choose File and select your file
  • Finally, click on Add the file to upload it to the forum
If the file is too large to upload here you can use a file sharing site such as drive.google.com, onedrive.com, or dropbox.com. They all have free accounts available
  • Upload the file to the file sharing site
  • Make the link shareable
  • Share the link to the file here
For screenshots please use the Windows Snipping tool. These are far easier to read than photos taken with your phone.

On many Windows systems you can also use <Windows-key><Shift><S>
On Windows 11 the images taken with <Windows-key><Shift><S> are automatically saved in the Screenshots folder under Pictures

Although I would probably use a profile rather than a pocket toolpath to cut around the outside of the circles, I don't see any particular issues with the file. If it's not cutting as shown in the preview at your machine, then there's a machine issue. Could be losing steps or something is loose. Is it going off-track in the same place each time? You might try contacting Legacy.

If it were a post-processor error I wouldn't expect it to pop up towards the end on a very repetitive design like this, but it's worth a check I suppose.

I ran the code three times and it did the same thing on all three!

Your material is actually a bit smaller than your design so your pins are getting a small flat area (on the top and bottom pins). If your board is not exactly parallel to your X axis on the CNC machine that might exaggerate this issue on one side or the other.
