Curve fitting problem

Post by kzeyus »

I'm having trouble using the curve fitting function with the attached drawing of a rock. I can do it fine with the small simple shape in the upper left corner, but when I try with the rock vectors, it just makes a copy of the existing vector node for node.

Would some of you try and see if I'm just doing something stupid.

Thanks

Ken

If it is doing that there is something wrong with the vectors. For example if you were trying to fit a curve to a vector of the number 6 and the vector point of the circle of the 6 passes throught he back side of the vector sloping from the start at the top around the bottom then it might not be able to fit the vector untill that point is moved to an area where it isn't crossing through itself. Not sure if this is what might be happening in your case. But typically loops and things like that will occure in vectors you fit to a bitmap.

Just a quick examination and clean up of them and you will be off and runing.

Also the tollerance for fit to might be loose or tight that it will result in the same line as you are trying to fit a curve to.

I've only done a little playing with the fitto. And I can see it being a SUPER cool addition to the program.

Looking at your file you have 2 spots that I found in the vectors which loop. Clear them out and I was able to do it. I turned off the keep sharp corners option as well. But might get better results playing with that option.

Always look for errors in the vectors when the options do not do what you wish... Uasually that is where the problem is.

Here it is with a curve fit to the fixed vectors.

It seemed to work on all the rock vectors except the outer one and the two larger inner vectors. I used artcam to find a loop in the outer vector and once fixed, it curve fits just fine.

Think that's the first time I've had Vectrics trace function create a loop. Sometimes use Acme TraceArt and it does it all the time.

Thanks.
