So I'm working with someone creating 2 rail sweep components with rails outside of the material surface.
His only creates the component inside the material surface. He claims that is the way his has always worked.
Mine creates the component from rail to rail. The way mine has always worked.
Any idea which setting in options controls this?
I looked at the options and didn't see anything that sounded like it was responsible for the type of behavior.
Both running 11.504.

Re: Options setting restricting models to material size.
Hi John,
Two-Rail Sweep will only create a model within the Job Size dimensions.
If any portion of the rails are outside of the Job Size, then the model is truncated at the edge(s) of the Job Size.
If the rails are completely outside of the Job Size, the rail sweep will not create a model at all.
If your Aspire is doing something different, please upload an example file of this. Perhaps we will all learn something new.

Re: Options setting restricting models to material size.
I sorry you are wrong about rails being off the material.
I made changes and can't remember which setting changed it, but before I made a change the resultant component was larger than the material.

This morning the resultant component went from rail to rail.
This would be a good one for Vectric to jump in on. There is a setting that changes off material behavior.

Re: Options setting restricting models to material size.
Hi John,
The sweep model is always truncated at the edges of the Job Size if rails extend off that area, as I mentioned previously.
Yes, the sweep is calculated “rail-to-rail” (as you are referring to it), but as shown in your screenshot, it’s only the portion within the Job Size that a model is created.
I’m still open and eager to learning something new, if you have an example of different behavior, of course.

Re: Options setting restricting models to material size.
John,
It just occurred to me how you may have witnessed a “false positive”…
1) Create a sweep model with the rails totally inside your Job Size
2) Change your Job Size to a dimension smaller than your rails such that the rails extend beyond the new Job Size
3) The model will remain as originally created (on the adequately-sized Job) and is intact, despite your smaller Job Size dimensions
So, did you create a sweep model, then change your Job Size to smaller dimensions after-the-fact? If so, then that should eliminate any confusion. (Your complete model could be larger than the smaller Job Size and is not truncated - at least not in the 2D View!)

Re: Options setting restricting models to material size.
Just go a hold of my shop computer which the options were not changed.
I can't duplicate what I thought I knew I saw this morning.
I would have thought the drugs from my surgery would have worn of by now, but apparently not.
Sorry
