Cut does not match the preview

Post by Phil »

The attached photos show the problem. The bowl does not match the preview. After seeing the result I recalculated the toolpath and got the same result. What's up??

What size cutter was specified for the inner bowl cut. Is it the same as the actual bit used? (e.g. Specified: 1"; actual 1/2".)

Not quite a full answer. I presume you mean the actual cut was done with a 2" flat-bottomed cutter. The preview image doesn't look at all like it was generated with a 2" flat-bottomed cutter. Looks more like a 1/2" ball-end cutter.

It's essentially a 2" end mill with rounded corners, not sure of the correct name for the bit.

Phil you got the terminology right, but I agree, the preview looks like a 1/2 inch Ball. Either that or the preview is of a 100 inch diameter bowl.

Can you post the CRV - as long as there are no copy rights.

Here is a pic of the bit, mine does not have a bearing. The file is too large to post.

If the file is too large to upload here you can use a file sharing site such as drive.google.com, onedrive.com, or dropbox.com. They all have free accounts available
  • Upload the file to the file sharing site
  • Make the link shareable
  • Share the link to the file here

Microsoft Paint is a windows program so if you're using windows you should have it. ( Use the Windows search ) to find it if needed.

Open your picture with it then use the RESIZE button.
X & Y are linked by default so just change the size percentage in one field and the other will change too.
Then SAVE or SAVE AS if you want to keep the full res. picture as well.

Quick question while we wait for the file to be uploaded, is this just one toolpath or more than one toolpath? Have you used a start depth at all?

If you can't upload the actual CRV3D file then take a screenshot of the tool settings in the toolpath. Click the Edit button in the toolpath and screenshot that.

99% likely that the issue is with those settings and the way the tool has been defined IMO.
