Control 3D depth of cut

Post by Phil »

The preview attached shows a box lid that I am designing. I would like to control the depth of cut on the perimeter. Is there a way to control the depth of cut? I am using a .125 ball nose bit.

If you are trying to control the scalloped edge, I would limit the thickness of the overall model so it doesn't go all the way to the bottom, set a boundary offset of the width of your bit, and then use a profile cutout toolpath. The depth of cut will be the thickness of the model.

Phil,

Can you make a pocket around the outer perimeter? Like a ring about 1/4 or 3/8 inch larger that the carving. That would be a 2D pocket as deep as the carving.

Another option is to make the carving into a dish.

I tried Steve's suggestion, worked perfectly. Thanks.
