Merge Lowest tutorial suggestions

Post by ohiolyons »

Trying to understand Merge Lowest and learn what I can about this option.

Haven't looked at youtube yet, hoping someone knew of a really great tutorial on this option.

Hoping there was something at one of the user groups meetings I was unaware of.

I don't know of a tutorial, but a little experimenting should get you there. It does exactly what the title says...if 2 components overlap and one of them has "Merge Lowest" set, then if the other component is below it on the component tree, the resulting composite model will include the parts of the model that are lowest where they overlap. I was actually experimenting using it with level clipping on multiple levels to remove “things” from a imported STL that I don’t want, like text.

Hoping there was a great presentation from a user’s group meeting that highlighted its features and potential uses that I was unaware of.

I’ll try your example to better understand the basics.

John,
Check out Mark Lindsay's Q&A on Sunday 26 Feb 23.
We talked about it and he mucked around with it's options.

I thought it to be an interesting question.

Thanks for the link to the video.

Didn't realize he would allocate that time to an ad hoc question.

Hi John,

James B posted an example of the use of Merge Low for transitioning shapes...which is just one particular type of application/scenario for that feature. I've used Merge Low on several modeling projects over the years, but not necessary on a "regular basis" for most modeling projects.

Here is the James B forum link you may be interested in seeing (along with an example file):
