Coping vectors to older version, new issue????
I was trying to copy vectors from my file in 11.5 to 10.5, in the past it worked.
Has Vectric made a change that prevents this?
I checked with another user and he experienced the same issue.
I create a file in 11.5, add text "HI"
I do a copy command from vectric's pull downs.
I create a new file in 10.5 and do a paste and the text no longer shows up.
It is not an issue that origins are different, I do a select all vectors and none are found.

John,
Try pressing "F9" to center the vectors then zoom in close. Also, you may have a stray vector somewhere. When you select the vectors for copying, just use drag select and not "select all"

Pasting between versions is the same rules in general as saving/loading between versions in my experience.
You can always go from older to newer but the other way around may not work depending on what has changed between the versions being used.
There is a lot of extra information attached to vectors when cutting/pasting that previous versions may not know about. You can always export/import as EPS, SVG etc.

Re: Coping vectors to older version, new issue????
The procedure I described works from 11.5 to 11 it used to work on 10.5.
I had another person try it and it copied for him on 11.5 to 11.
It failed for him too on 11.5 to 10.5.
New files NO stray vectors.
I have done this many times before when collaborating on a joint project with someone who doesn't have the latest version.
I didn't try to convert text to vectors for 2 reasons: 1 never had to before and 2: I tried a normal vector straight line too and it failed to copy.
Just tried converting it doesn't work either.
There aren't any stray vectors because I created a new file to test to rule stray vectors out.
It pastes into 11.0 fine
It no longer pastes to 10.5.
Vectric please chim in here, did you make a change to stop copying to older versions.

Re: Coping vectors to older version, new issue????
I have never copied from older to newer since I always upgrade when a new version is available.
Never thought about hidden things program see in file structure in new version that may not be there in older version that causes a fail.
I was wondering how Vectric could disable a Windows copying function selectively.

Re: Coping vectors to older version, new issue????
I've never been able to make new to older version copying work, certainly not prior to v11. When v11.5 came out, I think that was the first that had some compatibility with any earlier release and it was only with v11, not anything earlier.
If it's vectors you're trying to copy, the best way is to save to some other format like .dxf or .eps and then import that into the older version. If it's 3d files, then save to a 3d format like .stl.

For those that would like to know more about how clipboards work and the ability to copy (or not) between programs:

Wasn't aware of different clipboards, thanks!
So do we know which one vectic uses?

Re: Coping vectors to older version, new issue????
I can't think it is something Vectric have done deliberately, after all you can still export vectors & then import them into an older version There was a lot of work done on the core program for V11 to allow the use of graphics cards so maybe changes there have made a difference.
I've never used the copy & paste function between different versions of the software as I have never had the need, I have used the export vectors function so I could import vectors into a different program for a different process like cutting vinyl on a vinyl plotter

Just a thought, but try using ctrl-c to copy and ctrl-v to paste. That is, don't use the Vectric menu options and don't use the right mouse button click options.
