10.516?

Post by 4DThinker »

I've got Aspire 10.515 on my main PC, but had to replace my shop PC. Downloaded from my portal 10.516 to install on the replacement PC. Anyone know what the 10.516 version fixed? Also why does my 10.515 install claims I have the latest version when obviously I don't?

You might be better contacting Vectric support, I tried to check & according to the update page 10.515 is the most up to date version

The download link on the updates page simply leads to a 10.515 update as if I'd been using an earlier version. When I downloaded the whole version from my portal I got a 10.516 install file. With that version installed on my shop PC it reports it is 10.516.
I'm guessing they made a minor tweak for an obscure error or some such. A version number puzzle to distract me.

I think I've seen this before, I have 10.515.

When Vectric issued 11 they stopped upgrading the masses at 10.515, but if you have a specific machine and or CNC that 10.516 solves a problem then it is available to you.

I think they are just trying to keep the overall version number down to a dull roar.
Also why update all those 10.515 anyway if the fix doesn't apply and problem goes away when 11 is bought.

Just a program note...if the download you installed is 10.516 and your other machine is at 10.515, you may not be able to pass files back to the earlier release, as minimal as it might be. So be aware you may need to load 10.516 on that machine, too.

I thought that only happened when they bump the integer, like 10 to 11.

I don't know if it is still the same way but I have had the File created on a new version of the software message when my laptop & desktop were running the same version of the software but the patch number was different

It may only be with major releases (which is why I indicated it was a "maybe"), but I'd still want to at least test and be sure to avoid a lot of "bad words" if something suddenly doesn't behave well when you need to get something done. From a practical standpoint, I believe it's a best practice to keep things in sync when it comes to version numbers overall anyway.

In practice I draw up my designs and create the toolpaths in my home office before taking a thumb drive with the toolpath and Aspire file down to the CNC room to cut. I only open the Aspire file in the CNC room if there is a small change I realize I need to save again. So far any 10.515 file has opened fine in 10.516. I have the original 10.515 file still on my office PC if I need to use it again, but that is rare.

Since you're doing your initial design on the "older" release, the newer one will open it just fine. 'Just for grins, do a simple design on the CNC room's machine (.516) and take that back to your office and see if the .515 release will open it. If not, and you might need to bring any small changes you make in the CNC room back to the office in the future, you'll want to upgrade the office machine to .516, too.

This thread is about version 10 not 11. The last version for 10 was 10.516, the current version for 11 is 11.504
