Help please. . . Corbels

Post by Jimcad »

Exporting STL files
I have started getting nearer to what the planning dept ( Mrs. Jim ) is after.
I exported it as an .STL file but it comes out as the piece I have cut away not the piece I wanted.
Is this correct? or am I being silly again?
Jim

Also . . . . . . My rank is showing that I'm a Vectric craftsman. I am Definitely not.
I think the number of posts that you make controls this. Can someone from Admin please change this so I'm back to novice please?
I have read a lot of posts on here and replied to some of them but I've forgotten nearly all of it. I find that having seen something will trigger something as I hit the snags myself. Then I have to go back and find the relevant post.
Thank you to all on here for the help and interesting posts.

Jim

I am not great when it comes to modelling, have you designed this in Aspire not sure I am following your process as you say you are exporting it as an STL, I have done that a couple of times & it has definitely not come out that way for me so guessing it is not normal
Yes the ranking goes purely on the number of posts you have made & obviously the longer you have been on the forum the higher it gets regardless of your skill level. Mine is way above where it should be lol

I’m with martin here. I’m going to presume (due to gradient background and model colour) that the 1st image is Aspire. The second image is?

Does Aspire need the components “baked” before exporting? Can you show a screenshot of you modelling component tree?

Thanks Martin54 and Adezcnc.
Yes as I'm not good with Aspire yet I modelled the block in Alibre, saved as stl, imported to Aspire and added clipart to suit my wife's liking.
I tried the export as .stl just to see what happens.
No I have not "baked" it.
I'll try that in the morning.
Thanks again.

Thanks again.
I read the help file on Baking.
I baked it and exported it. On the previous try I had clicked the "close with a flat plane"
This time I left it open.
I'm guessing the thin walls sticking up in the air are something to do with not cutting past the model to allow for tool radius ? ? ? Good fun isn't it.
The planning dept. has changed her mind again so need to go and glue up some old bits of wood to make suitable workpieces. We had planned to use Ash and I only have the one piece. It's going to be stained dark und underneath a wall cupboard, behind a sofa so the pressure is off ! ! ! When I mess it up it's not the end of the world. Phew!!!!!!!

Thanks.

Well here they are. A pair of handed corbels.
I'm rather proud of myself. I know it's probably a simple thing for people on here but as a learner. . . . . I'm happy. (So is Mrs. Jim)
These were made from a couple of old roof joist offcuts that the builder was going to throw away.
I glued them together to make a rectangle then cut corner to corner.
Plenty of stain and got these. :D

I would say you deserve that craftsman rating. Well done on those.

Wow!
Thanks Gents. I didn't expect that sort of reaction from you more seasoned guys.
