Change Tool Number without recalculating toolpath?

Post by mcww_shop »

Hi all - I don't think this is possible, but I really wish it were. I have a complex carving that takes about 5 minutes to calculate the 3d finishing toolpath. And this is on a poweful server with lots or RAM. I frequently forget to change the tool number until I'm ready to save out the toolpaths

Of course the only way to save the change is to recalculate the toolpath. Does anyone know a way around this?

I assume this is working as intended. How does one submit an enhancement request to Vectric?

Thanks!

The tool number will be in the gCode saved file. You could change it there.

Aspire complains about saving multiple toolpaths to a single file when different tools have the same number.

This would be a good solution if I were saving multiple files, though. Thanks, Tex!

Anyone know how to submit an enhancement request to Vectric?

Not following why this is an issue unless you're continually changing the tool number in the toolpath rather than in the database.

Aren't your tools numbered in your tool database? Are you just changing the tool number, or are you changing the actual tool? If the tool itself is changed, then of course you need to recalculate the toolpath. If you just want the tool number changed, then simply edit the g-code and manually change the tool number. Takes a couple of seconds this way.

Use the tool renumber gadget by dve2000. Recalculating isn't necessary.
