John, the short answer is no.johnwebb332 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 2:52 amHello everyone,
I am wanting to know if Aspire will allow you to define a dome shape as your material setup? I like to work with odd shapes of wood and would like to be able to carve on a non flat surface without cutting a bunch of air. Think a half round piece of firewood.
BUT,
In aspire you can create a model of the log that you want to use and draw a vector around it to create your toolpaths. You can also project toolpaths onto the model surface.
Is it EASY?
Maybe yes - maybe no
It is all relavent to what you consider to be easy.
I have a background in 3D CAD, so I took to it, but it took time.
It does take a good amount of learning how to create a model.
You will not learn that the first time you try in a five minute session.
When I made this Fisherman Plaque, I created vectors to match the shape of the slice of wood.
It's flat on top and the bottom is parallel to the top - so, not really a 3D shape.
I used the machine to find the outside positions of the vectors and node edited properties for position of about 20 points around the perimiter. You can do the same in V-Carve.
To go to the next step and create a 3D shape you need Aspire and the modeling tools. It is NOT automatic. It does require some work.
