2022 - Graphics tablet recommendation?
2022 - Graphics tablet recommendation?
Hi, I searched the forums and there are many older threads relative to certain issues with using a graphics tablet (drawing tablet, not tablet pc). Things like doubled 3d tab, slow 3d preview with "use tablet" turned on.
With Aspire v11 / 11.5 on the horizon, can anyone comment on the successful use of a graphics tablet with Aspire 11+? If so, are there any preferred brands/models that work well with Aspire and it's 3d modeling tools?
Thanks in advance!

If you type: graphics tablet
into the search bar in the upper right of this screen you'll get 5 pages of posts dating back to 2007.
It appears that the only Aspire specific use of the tablet is in the Sculpting Tool.
The rest are generic tap the stylus here and tap it there to draw a line, tap the stylus here for the centre of a circle and you can drag the circle to the right size if the tablet is emulating a mouse, etc.
At least that's what I remember from years ago using an old Wacom tablet that IT was getting rid of with VCarve for a bit.

Thanks for replying. I was more looking for brands/models the community was using successfully.

I have a Wacom Intuos Pro medium size and only use it during sculpting.
With the new component brush abilities in 11 I find the need for it has diminished.
It does take a while to get use to when you have been using a mouse since forever.
instead of moving your wrist the stylist is more pencil like motion.

Re: 2022 - Graphics tablet recommendation?
I purchased Wacom One tablet 3 weeks ago.
I have unboxed it and used it a bit. It's my first time with a tablet and it will take me a while to get used to it.
But I hope to find time to dive in to learning it.
Everything I read and watch say once you get used to the pen you'll never go back to the mouse... but I'm and old Dog and it's harder to complete new tasks!!

Re: 2022 - Graphics tablet recommendation?
There are certain settings that make it work better for me versus the defaults.
I'm tryin to figure out how best to communicate them to you, maybe screen shots.
I'll do it later today and post the photos.

Re: 2022 - Graphics tablet recommendation?
I know some users use a Wacom tablet
I have purchased 2 Wacom tablets, One larger and one smaller.
The smaller one seems easier to use then the bigger one.
HOWEVER
I don't like using them with Vectric.
The mouse is just sooo much easier - at least for ME.
Maybe getting used to the tablet would be better in the end, but for me it is the mouse - not the tablet that I will use.

John,
Thank you for taking time to grab the screen captures.
I'll find time this weekend to try them out.
Thanks again John
Leo,
I can relate "" ... is just easier.""
Many many years ago I watched James Booth work his magic with a tablet and I was just in awe of his skills and talent, I've always wanted to attempt using one just to see.

Don, EXACTLY the same reason I tried. I took some tutoring under Dan Sawatsky and was also very impressed. So I tried it - Twice. I think Mike Tyler is also a tablet user.RoutnAbout wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 11:14 pmLeo, Many many years ago I watched James Booth work his magic with a tablet and I was just in awe of his skills and talent, I've always wanted to attempt using one just to see.
Not trying to discourage - go and try it - you may well master it. At least to try it. I would, but I already did. I think I may plug it in again someday for an art or drawing program. I think on that it would excel for me.

Both Michael Tyler and Michael Mezalick are a wealth of knowledge.
M. Tyler scanned a table leg that I was able to recreate on an indexer for a customer a few years ago. And I've personally met M. Mezalick at a sign camp, and gained a lot of knowledge from. Thanks Mike and Mike!!!

Re: 2022 - Graphics tablet recommendation?
A while back I decided I wanted to learn how to 3D sculpt, like real 3D sculpting (in the round).
I purchased a Huion drawing tablet. It is actually a monitor. So, when you use the stylus on it you are actually looking at the image. This is by far the preferred method for most 3D modelers and graphic artists these days. I also purchased a Huion keypad so I could map shortcut keys to something besides a standard keyboard. A standard keyboard is sort of clunky when using a drawing tablet.
It works great on apps in general, just like a mouse. Interestingly enough, you can also have a mouse plugged in while using it.
This is not a "touch sensitive" screen. It does not read your fingers at all, it requires the stylus.
I have a long, long, LONG way to go in my 3D modeling efforts with this thing. Just figuring out which software I want to use is a task unto itself. Blender, ZBrush, 3DCoat. Believe it or not, I am sort of leaning towards 3DCoat these days.
One really nice thing about this type of tablet is that it can be used as a secondary monitor when you are not actually working with it.
Anyway, just something else to look at, a bit pricey. . . .but it sort of depends on where a person wants to go in the future.
