sizing complex shapes

I am trying to size a complex shape that keeps the same outline with the same proportions both larger and smaller. The set size tool will not do that to a complex shape. What I am trying to do is shrink or expand an outline of a shape, say by 6mm, and have it's outline shrink or expand by that 6mm for the entire shape. Sizing it with the (Set Size) tool linking xy will not accomplish that. So is there a way to do it?

Try the Offset tool. You can offset a vector in or out by a set amount to create a new vector.

Thank you Adrian, that is what I was looking for. Not sure why I didn't think of that myself.
