banded reed

Post by 2C3D4U »

I want to avoid having the band/wrap following the profile of the two rail swept reed pattern, preferring it to lie on top with no undulation.
What am I missing? Should the wrap be on its own level?

Post the file.

Two rail sweeps only do what you told it to do. The banding must be part of your profile vector.

Thank you. I remembered to set the reeding height lower than the banding, and there it was. What I'd like to do is have the banding follow the profile by introducing a convex profile just a smidge higher than the reed ridges, thereafter applying the banding.........but continuing, bone up on how the combine/multiply mode, to have the banding additionally taper off in height as it travels towards the outer boundaries of the reeding. My big issue is visiting this software so infrequently; it embarrassingly requires re-teaching myself some of the basics.

If I understand what you want try this.

Make the band it’s own 2 rail sweep, then have 2 different profile vectors one taller than the other.

Place the taller one on the apex of the reed. Place the smaller one on the ends near the base.

It should be higher at the spec and taper off near the base.

Like this?

I used John's model and adjusted the band component height to .02" and added a base of .02"

Is this what you're going for?

If so, then this is made from 2 2-rail sweeps. I didn't use a multiply sweep, just stacked one on the other.

Well, not really. I wanted the band to wrap straight across the 5 reeds, simply tapering off at the left and right sides of that column. Yes, I did create the band with a second two rail sweep, additionally drooping the vectors (one lower than the other) and adjusting the rail geometries to fade as I wanted. I'll post a png tomorrow. This is part of an elaborate Palladian window treatment for our house.
