Bending a Drawing
Bending a Drawing
I have a tree drawing that I would like to bend for a xmas project. I have tried converting to curves but it is not text. So can some help me understand what I am missing in being able to complete this?

Re: Bending a Drawing
What do you mean when you say you want to bend it? There are lots of ways to change the drawing, including using the distort tool or node editing.

I would like to bend it the middle so the top hangs over and I could hang an ornament on it. I will post a picture of one I saw

Re: Bending a Drawing
Seeing as the ones you have are bitmap traces the simplest way would be to trace the picture of the one that is already bent and use that.
The way I would do it if you really want to use your existing vectors is to chop it up into sections with node editing. Use the rotate tool to rotate each section to the angle you want and then use join tools and interactive trim tools to join it all back to one tree.

Played around with one of your trees using the Distort Tool.

Re: Bending a Drawing
Here's a rough example. Steps to get to this:
1. Baked the existing shape using the distort function (looks like you tried to distort it already and it needed to be baked before anything else could be done)
2. Exited distortion, then went into node editing and cut the shape right above the 2 lower boughs. I did this so the distortion would not cause the bottom of the tree to lean. Now there were 2 vectors, one for the top of the tree and one for the bottom.
3. Chose the top piece, then opened the distort tool and chose "Bounding Box", then "Apply"
4. Right clicked on the two sides of the bounding box and changed each to bezier curves
5. Pulled the top 2 nodes of the bounding box down and to the left, then played with the handles on the bezier curves until it looked like I wanted.
6. Baked the distortion and exited the distort tool
7. Used the Join/Close vector tools to rejoin the top and bottom.
