Profile on toolpath help

Post by Beltramidave »

I am surfacing multiple slabs with epoxy and I am finding my surfacing bit cuts better when going from left to right.
I would like to have it do profile on cuts going from left to right and then raise up and go back to left and make another pass. I do not want it to cut in when going back to the left.
I created multiple lines with all the starting points on the left side but it still cuts in both directions. How can I make it only cut starting on the left?

For the profile toolpath look at the section that has the tabs “ramps”, “leads”, etc. Look at the “start” tab. Choose keep start points rather than optimize.

For more info click on “Help” in the top menu (“File”, “Edit”, etc.) and choose documentation.

Thanks, that seems to work. Is there a way to complete one depth from top to bottom instead of completing total depth of cut on one line before moving to the next?

I think I mis-spoke as far as the solution working. Looking at the gcode, it appears that it is still machining back and forth instead of going from left to right, lifting and returning to the left for another pass.
Here is snippet of the code as I am not at my machine right now.

With multiple passes with an open vector on the vector passes will go in opposite directions without retracting. As the bit is in contact with the material all round there shouldn't be any difference going in different directions.

You could do it as two separate toolpaths with the second one having a start depth or use a left/right setting as that will retract as far as I remember.

Ended up using Adrian's suggestion as multiple toolpaths (saved as one) with different start depths to accomplish this. Also used the left to right option and keep start points option as suggested. Thanks for the help!
