Why does undo not work with adding guides?

Post by rbarrow »

If I add a bunch of relative guidelines to a drawing, ctrl-Z (undo) doesn't remove them. Is this an oversight or am I missing something?

Ctrl-Z should work for ALL functions in the program I should think...

I'm not a computer programer so can't answer your question but I do have other software where the back or undo function won't remove guides that I have placed.
If I am using guides then I just put then on a layer marked as guides & then I can turn the visibility on & off as required & also lock the layer so I don't move them accidently

Guide line don't modify anything. What would they undo?

Hi Roy,

I’ve not missed the “Ctrl-z undo” for getting rid of a guideline - if I change my mind, I just click-n-drag it back into the Ruler to get it off the workspace (immediately, or at anytime).

That being said, some layout programs do indeed support Ctrl-z to undo a guideline placement. For example, CorelDRAW operates that way.

Hi Roy,

Perhaps you can send an email to support@vectric.com to put in a suggestion for the undo feature to include guide placement in the cache.

It's entirely probable that I'm misunderstanding this issue, but I select this box to hide all guides or bring them back:

If you are deleting all of the guides (straight from the help file):

View ► Guide Lines ► Delete All Guides

You can also click on the little square in the upper left corner where the horizontal and vertical rulers meet to hide all guides. There are other options under the "View/Guidelines" menu.

The way he stated his original post, I think he means to actually get rid of them (via Ctrl-z backwards in time of their placement, keeping selective earlier placements) as opposed to turning on/off visibility, Bob and Steve.

However, that’s a good feature to mention for anyone who didn’t know how to toggle guideline visibility.
