Quick Thread Milling question...

Post by rbarrow »

I am trying to TM a 1.25 x 8 tpi through a block of 1.5" material. I have the MSC cutter (3/4" 60 degree - 3/8) shown in the TM tutorial. I noticed in the tool database the tool length is shown as .75 but looking at the tool it appears that I can extend the bit to twice that and still have adequate holding in the collet.

If I am wanting to TM through the block of material all the way, I am assuming the material will need to be 1.75" or so and the clearance pocket would need to be roughly that depth as well before attempting to TM. Or, given the tool offset is .0938, that would be the minimum additional depth necessary to mill to the bottom...?? correct?

I just want to make sure that I am understanding the steps correctly.

Any suggestions or insight would be appreciated.
