Help needed

Post by Pete Howlett »

ImageNearly all of my work is 2D so I haven't got Aspire-

I make ukulele and do a lot of inlay work and stuff that requires simple cuts. However I do want to create some models (I think that is what they are called) for two instruments and a set of tapered curved fingerboards. I can make a simple radius for the top of the fingerboard but cannot attach a tool path to this to follow the curve.

Can anyone help me or do I have to she'll out the £1500 to upgrade to Aspire?

Pete

Here is some of my work:

You can use the fluting toolpath or moulding toolpath to create curved (in the Z) toolpaths.

If you have a 3D model created in other software you can import that and use the Project onto 3D option in the profile toolpath to get the tool to follow the curve of the underlying model.

Pete,
Stefan K developed a fret board gadget. It works under V9.5 and V10.5. It even supports multi-scale. Currently radiused fret boards are only supported under Aspire, but perhaps you and Stefan collaborate on some enhancements for your use case.

The gadget can be downloaded from the thread linked above. I've included a copy of the documentation.

Wow - the looks great though I din't know how use a gadget yet... and the problem is I don't have Aspire. I think I'm going to have to end up buying it and finding lots of other projects to exploit its potential...

The gadget works with VCarve too, with the exception of the radiused fret board.

If you are upgrading from Vcarve to Aspire you just pay the price difference

You can do a fretboard radius with the molding tool path. (A lot of other instrument related "non-2D" cutting can be done that way, too)

Pete
What radius do you need? I can generate it for you but it has to be a dxf for carve to import it!
