Erasing component outside of vector
I have a 3d component of a cluster of grape leaves from aspire. I am trying to just pull out 1 leaf from the cluster. I drew a vector around what I wanted to keep and closed it. When I select clear component outside of vector, it erases the component totally. The vector was selected, as well as the component. I successfully did this with a Design and Make component in the same file. What could be the problem. The only difference between vectors is that the one that is not working is based upon curves, where the other is straight lines.

Hi Mark,
Make sure your vector shape is closed. You can quickly check by going to Edit/Select Open Vectors

Re: Erasing component outside of vector
I did close the vector and just checked and I have no open vectors.

Re: Erasing component outside of vector
Hmmm. It should have worked, then. (Provided your closed shape has no oddities such as loops or crossovers.)
Do you have multiple Layers in your project? If so, check that all Layers are visible. Perhaps it did work after all, and the trimmed model portion was placed into a Layer that the visibility was turned off. (Your component tree should show you have the model in the list, but it might be “invisible” if it’s on a Layer with visibility off.)
If you still can’t solve this, you may need to provide your project file to support@vectric.com if you cannot post it for us to look at via Dropbox (or whatever) due to copyright, etc.
I’m reasonably sure it’s something simple to correct.

Re: Erasing component outside of vector
Could the vectors be Grouped? that would look like they were closed.

Re: Erasing component outside of vector
Right. And the Select Open vectors would not detect them.
A single, true closed vector shape shouldn’t be a “grouped” item anyway. But, stranger things have been done!

Re: Erasing component outside of vector
The "Clear Component" tool detects open vectors even if they are grouped and won't proceed with the operation.

Re: Erasing component outside of vector
Have you tried the vector with other models to see if you get the same results?
Could you post the file? If there is a copyright problem then just delete the model from the file, at least that way the experts like Michael & Adrian can have a look at your vectors

Hi Mark,
Martin has a good idea. You can delete the models and re-save your file under a different name, then upload that file with just the vectors only. We will be able to find if you have any “vector problem” instantly, upon inspection!

Re: Erasing component outside of vector
Thanks for all the suggestions, but as Michael mentioned, it has to be something simple. It was. I was trying to perform the operation outside of my job sheet. I'm still surprised that it didn't work. I often do things outside of my job sheet, just to keep things from being cluttered.
