More Nodes
So, the long days at home, as we may have been dealing with, have for me, set my mind to thinking..
I know the importance of nodes and how to reduce the number of node....
But my question is,,,,
Is there a way to populate a circle, with only 4 nodes, and convert it to a circle with, let's say, 400 nodes......
I would hate to simple use the the "I" key to insert a node but rather looking for the magical one button solution.
Just thinking.
Thanks,
Michael

Re: More Nodes
If you select the circle and choose the Fit Curves to Vectors, Straight Lines, and play with Tolerance you begin to accomplish your "goal"

Re: More Nodes
This ain't pretty but it will work:
Draw 1/400th of the circle as an arc. I suppose you could draw the full circle, then rotate a line 1/400th of 360 degrees and trim it.
Take that arc and array it a few times, an even number is a good idea. Join them up. Then take that join up and rotate it a few times. Join them up. . . . wash rinse and repeat.

Re: More Nodes
Thanks guys for playing along.
The "Fit Vectors to Curves" will change the shape of the circle so that wouldn't work as expected.
And the idea of a 1/400th segment of a circle is interesting, but what happens if it's not a circle ...
Again, thanks for indulging me in some way off topic stuff..

Re: More Nodes
Depends what you set the tolerance to on the Fit To Curves. You can set it higher than anything a CNC can physically cut and get thousands of nodes. Aspire doesn't like that many nodes though....
Re: More Nodes
I can't help but wonder what you are working on that would benefit from 400 nodes in a circle.????

Re: More Nodes
You mean something like this? With the nodes all nice and evenly spaced?
So do tell, why do you want to do this?

Yes, That's what I'm looking for...
The answer will appear in due time.

Michael...
(V10)
Create circle
Node Edit the 4 spans to Bezier curves
Offset the new geometry
I believe you now have your nodes

Re: More Nodes
Draw a circle
Use Fit Curves to Vectors
Select Straight Lines
set tolerances to 0.001 inches -- smaller for more nodes, larger for fewer nodes

Re: More Nodes
And then to turn everthing back into curves rather than straight lines, select the shape, go into node editing, select all the points at once and hit the "S" key to smooth the curves. Now they're all beziers.

Thanks Gents,
It's always good to see who's out there with their thinking cap on.
I'll update as the "project" moves forward......or not...
