Stretching Words

Can anyone explain how to stretch a word across the length of a box without stretching the actual letters? I just want more space between each letter. In the text in a vector box option there is an option to (stretch Kerning) I though this might be the trick but it doesnt seem to do anything

Kerning increases/decreases the spacing between the letters. You can use the Edit Text Spacing and Curve tool to kern between the letters.

The vector box version should be working but if you have margins turned on it may give the impression that it isn't.
