Dont know if its a bug or what, but its not what i expected
Was making a couple of mortises 1" wide and 7" long
Mortise on left is with no profile path, right is profile last pass.
I figured it would just have rougher edges, not smaller I'll go back to last pass, but i thought id post here

By any chance did you have a negative Pocket Alliance on the right one?

Turn the No Profile Pass off on the left one.
The thing to remember is that with no profile pass all you are doing is roughing the pocket out.
The routine has been this way since I cannot remember when. I see it all the time when using the Pocket strategy to flatten surfaces. I run 4.5 and it acts the same way.

Never noticed it before, I've always used Last Pass.

Maybe the best way to explain this is as follows:
The tool has a stepover value that is preset.
If you tell it No Profile Pass then the tool cannot step over to finish the pocket to size, so it stops. The only time No Profile Pass works is if the tool diameter and the stepovers add up to the exact size of the pocket.

It does have rougher edges…just all around the pocket making the pocket smaller.
To quote the v9.5xx manual:
It seems to me it’s always been like that since I first start on version 6.Profile Pass: Used to clean up the inside edge after machining the pocket. This can be done either before the rastering (First) or after the rastering (Last). If 'No Profile Pass' is selected, you will need to calculate a profile pass manually to machine the pocket to size.
I use this with a spiral ramp and a full depth cut to shear the walls of the pocket in one pass (well, two actually—one to ramp and one to go around on the flat).

yup, thanks all.
i was wandering around off my normal beaten path .
back to last path, not sure i could do the manual profile pass as easy, will just take more time.
