"Baby Yoda" here,

Scott (et al), I am completely mistaken about the imported third-part model portions being deleted if they extend beyond the material boundaries.

So, you are correct that you CAN import third-party models that are larger than the material size, then reduce the model size after-the-fact, to fit it's entirety within the material boundary. (The "out-of-bounds" portions are NOT deleted.)

I don't know what I was thinking! Major OOP's for me.

It’s funny, Scott. I’ve gone ahead and imported models larger than the material numerous times as well (then resized afterwards to fit material).

I have no excuse for my previous blundered comment - I’ve been drinking coffee all day!

Re: Question

I guess that I'm not quite understanding about importing models larger than the material.
In Fact the second picture that i posted, I started a file with my material size 10" X 10"
When I imported the model it cam in at ~148" X 130"
Went back to the sizing tab and reduced it to fit.

Edit,
Alright, I guess that I'm kinda late to the conversation.

Sorry Jan,
Go back to last page, and third comment from bottom I was just trying to answer your question.....
Then thread went sideways on us :)
Did you re-import it at Max Res,
and was file any cleaner at max preview resolution with smaller stepover in a small boundary area?
Never bought from them before,
but HAVE bought some from others that were total junk for my purposes.

On "Mom's Harley" I had to use a smaller boundary,
and a smaller bit at a lower stepover before I got it looking good.
Zoom WAY in on text when model is first imported....that is as good as you can get using 3D.

Haven't tried the methods Ted and The Tall Texan recommended yet :) :)
(I needed the 3D detail in other areas as well....and it was a test piece for machine settings:)

Sorry we got sidetracked on you

Actually I was responding to Michael's post.
I didn't realize that we had started a new page until after I posted it.

Yes I did watch the tutorial (thanks John) and tried to import the model in the higher resolution.
I couldn't see a difference.

I don't have a problem spending the money on Aspire other than I'm not so sure that I would use it to its full potential.
Most of my work is 2D signs and plaques.
If I do any 3D work it is with imported models and I manipulate them in Desktop.
So far it has worked out great.
So at my age (70) I'm not so sure that its a smart investment. (I dunno,,we'll see)
Seems like for the extra $1600.00 I could find someone to do some touch up work whenever it is necessary. (like in this case)

You will probably live to be 90 and telling yourself you should have upgraded. Keep in mind, you are not going to be able to take that money with you.

I'm 73 and I just bought a new car. My wife was concerned about spending the money and I said that I'd rather be sorry for something I've done than for something I didn't do.

One of my friends is 78. Three years ago I helped him buy his first 48 x 96 x 12 CNC machine. He never touched a CNC machine before that.

My other friend is 72 year old and learning all about this stuff. These are things he never did before.

I dunno - what is the logic that 70 is too old to learn more and have an increased level of fun?

DEFINATELY - a learning curve to it.

Hi all,
I'm 78 and just started n CNC less than a year ago. Havin' a ball with it.
Is my memory as good as it used to be...…..Not hardly
Is the learning curve with Aspire steep. You bet however, I learn something new each time. (Now if I could just remember it)

Leo, when I lived up your way one of my neighbors was 75 and building a boat in his shed in the back, did a beautiful job. One day we went over to see a pal of his who was 84, he was building a much bigger boat and was some kind of a craftsman.

I am thinking that if you sit around all day watching TV listening to ads that tell you that you are probably sick with about 20 different physical problems you will die young, if for no other reason than to get away from the commercials.

If I have my way I will keel over on my way out to the shop with big plans swimming in my head for the project I want to work on that day.
