Aligning Single Clipart to Curve

Post by Mark's Wood Chips »

I know that you can use "Copy Along Vectors" to place multiple copies of an object along a curve but instead, I want to take a single elongated object and form it to the shape of the curve (see attached picture - want weave to take the shape of the curve). I've been using distort object to accomplish the task but I would like to know if there is a more automated way to accomplish the task?

Thanks,

Mark

You should look at Extrude and Weave.

Create your weave first and then extrude that along your vector.

I don't want 3D, instead a V-carved design.

Have you tried Distort Selected Object?

Yes, that is the way I have been doing it. I'm looking for an automated method similar to text on a curve.

Sorry, I don't have a file. This is an academic question only.

He said he was using Distort Objects.

Not certain how much automated you could want. Explain please?

You select the clipart, then a vector and press apply and it is distorted.

I guess the answer to your original question is No.

The practical application to my question was designing a smooth flowing V-Carve on a gently curved walking stick. The weave pattern stick has the series of weaves stacked end to end. Each individual weave pattern is straight, I wanted it to follow more closely to the actual curve of the stick. It's acceptable the way it turned out but I was hoping to soak up some greater wisdom from my friends on this forum :D .

Did you use the Distort Object function Between Two Vectors? Here are a couple of pictures of distorting a weave pattern between two vectors.

No, I haven't tried that - thanks for the suggestion.

I'm confused now. Using the Distort Objects was suggested earlier in the thread and you said you were already doing it that way.
